I believe the future of Wake County and America resides in our children. Someone once said, “The children of our generation are our gift to future generations.” The way we give future generations our best is through education. Our focus must be to educate our children so that they can face future challenges with competence.
There are many issues facing the Wake County Public School System which affect the quality of the education our children receive.
All children and families need a stable environment in which to live and learn. Parents need to know that their children will receive an excellent education wherever they attend school. I also believe that we must work more diligently to meet the demand for magnet schools, year-round schools, and charter schools to better accommodate parents' choice.
To help students who are not college bound and improve our graduation rate, I have worked to implement Career Technical Education high schools. Today a vocational education means a well paying job in fields like electronics, design, computer modeling and healthcare. I will continue to work with the Board to pursue this educational option for our students.
As a businessperson and former teacher, I understand the delicate
balance between providing a world-class education and assuring that
every citizen’s hard earned tax dollar is used wisely and efficiently.
I believe a common-sense business approach needs to be employed
in operating a school system as large as ours.
Ultimately, the Wake County Board of Education must be held accountable to parents, students and taxpayers. Open communications, fiscal responsibility, and academic excellence should be our foremost goals. When we work together to achieve these goals, we will earn and keep
the trust of all the citizens of Wake County.
I look forward to continuing to serve the parents, students and taxpayers
of District 2. Thank you for your support. |
